How I have come to this place

Over my years of travel and meeting many different people, I have been asked all kinds of questions about myself and native american concepts, culture, myths and practices. It is with a heart of thankfulness and humility that I find myself in this place. Knowing what I have put my spirit and body through in the journey of my life would make most folks say, “what was he thinking?” But as I look back and forward in my heart, I was always trying to find the footpath that would lead me to be a better human being to myself and others around me. The spirit of mother earth is always trying to teach me lessons and knowledge no matter how stubborn I have been.

If we look back in time, humans did not always have so many man-made things to survive upon. Yet they lived and were healthy and connected to the nature and people around them. The energy of life is in all of nature and the wind that blows through it is like the breath of life. I have sometimes stood in a beautiful place in nature and taken a deep breath to fill myself with that place. If you stand in silence and listen with a good heart, there are many things to learn. Wisdom begins with our understanding of our place in this world.

Everything that we do to our bodies and to those around us is remembered - a lot like a battery stores a charge. If we do something bad, it remains for a time, as well as if we do something good. By taking care of how we treat these things we can change the state and spirit of them. But this takes time because you are slowly effecting that which has been stored. Most of all nature, including me and you, is governed by this truth.

Many of us in this modern world have forgotten the importance of our spirit and how it is connected to the things around us. Someone who is connected has an awareness of the state and spirit of other people and nature. This leads to qualities such as respect, humility, generosity, patience, honor and courage. With great sadness I see these attributes of power leaving mankind a little more each generation. This is why it is so important we live by good example to show the young people the benefits of these things. For it is they who will define the world.

It is sad that men have become so reliant upon man-made foods and products. We have been given one body to use. If we supply it with healthy food from nature, work hard and exercise consistently, it will work well for a long time. As you do more good things to your body and to those around you, your body will become cleaner and your mind clearer.

It is my belief that those who have had knowledge handed down to them should carry it to the next generation. I have been blessed with a lifetime of trials and difficulty. Everyday I struggle to overcome the pain of my past with humor and love. I have a heart to teach and learn. What I know is like one feather from the whole eagle. But I always strive for wisdom because this comes from a different place.

Our knowledge as mortals is limited. There are many things we will never know. Sometimes you just have to believe, and in that blind belief you find absolute reality and truth.

Until we meet again… pâhávêstánové

Our spirit is so important, and yet we do see so much of it disappearing these days.. in fact, most of my friends would laugh if I dare talk about such a thing..

we can all learn if only we open our eyes more to nature and what it has to offer…
